TGIF

Mr. Adorbs and I went to the mall this morning. It was pouring rain and we had some shopping to do. Besides a little meltdown in Macys and GAP, and a poopy diaper to boot, we did pretty well. Thankful that Auntie Meliss was there to help along the way. Man, going anywhere with a baby is 10x more crazy then if you were going by yourself. :)
This weekend promises to be a wet one so suit up and stay dry everyone!

TGIF,

"The Mom Stays in the Picture"

I read this article online the other day and it struck me hard:
Basically, Allison talks about her hesitancy to be in any photos with her young children because she's not as "up to par" physically as she'd like to be. I can totally relate-I mean, I just had a baby not too long ago and my face is still dealing with the effects of Bell's Palsy. Taking pictures hasn't been on my top list of things to do for some time now.

However, Allison writes how important it is to be a part of the documentation of your child's life. She is so poignant in saying that her son doesn't see her love handles or her not done hair or frumpy outfit, but he simply sees "Mama" and that's what's most important.

I told Blane after reading this article that I'd like him to take more pictures of me with Cole, something that I've kinda been avoiding since Cole was born simply because my face is crooked. Seriously-we have thousands of photos of Cole, many of them with Blane and his grandparents and aunties and uncles...but hardly any with me.
The above four paragraphs really gripped my heart. After reading them, I sighed, wiped a tear or two and decided to kick my crooked face in the booty (not literally, obviously ;) and just be okay with me how I am now. I want Cole to know that his Mom was there loving on him from day one and I'm determined to have some photos to go along with that statement.

So everyone, I'm leaving pride and vanity by the wayside today and embracing the beauty of what God has created in all of its perfect and imperfect glory. Here's to living and learning on being a better me, a better Mom!
The three of us on our trip up north the other weekend-Cole's first getaway!
Oh, and you can read the entire article here.

Wish Wish Wish

It's that time of year people, and I've decided to share my personal wish list here, not because I am expecting any of you to get me anything, but because it's kinda fun to see what people like don't ya think? Without further ado...

1. Lululemon's "Wunder Under" pant in Black, size 6. I've heard wonders (haha) about these pants and can't wait to replace all of my beloved sweats with them ;)
2. These Sam Edelman "Petty" Ankle Booties in putty, size 7.5. Extremely versatile for both fall/winter and spring/summer AND I love the color-goes with everything! Bonus is the low heel-essential for a mom with a "will-walk-in-the-next-year" son :).

3. Would love this beautiful gold bar necklace stamped with Cole's name. It's an Etsy find and only $47! Wish it was real gold, but I'd love it nonetheless!
4. Two cookbooks for the re-bourgeoning chef! Can't go wrong with Ina or Deb!
5. A Le Creuset Dutch Oven because it's so versatile and it'll last for decades!

6. Some gold bracelet love. This Stella and Dot Gold Spike beauty and this classic J.Crew Pave Link bracelet that I'd wear together with my watch, all piled up on one arm!
7. A Slouchy Beanie. Because I have a big head and I think this would make it look less big :) Plus, I like to wear hats in the wintertime and it also means one less day to wash my hair. Hah! And it's cute!
8. A pedicure and a massage! Every new Mom's ideal day off :)
So anywho, there you have it-my wish list for this year :). Of course, I am beyond blessed and was already given the best "gift" of all this year...
Duh! :D

Happy Shopping all!

O Christmas Tree

The day after Thanksgiving officially kicks off Christmas season for me, always has and always will. I'm not one of those "early Christmas" people who cheat Thanksgiving out of its day, no sir! So, while hoards of people were running around shopping on Black Friday, our family only went to one store for one very special purpose...
With our partners in crime-my sister and brother in law! Little guy all bundled up :)
My hubby doing his manly tree duties! Uncle Josh hanging with Mr. Chubs.
Us conversing with Cole about the prospective tree winner. And as a family after it was all said and done!
It was the perfect time to get a tree-there was still some daylight left, Home Depot was hardly crowded, the selection was superb and the air was crisp.
Welcome, officially, to Christmas season everyone!
From our home to yours,

Mommy Must Haves: Feeding

1. Lansinoh Disposable Nursing Pads. These are indispensable for keeping your clothes dry and presentable in the, ahem, chest area at all times when breast feeding. I use the Lansinoh brand and I like them because they adhere to the inside of your bra with adhesive and they are thick enough to hold moisture yet slim enough to not bulk you up.
 2. Lanolin Cream. Breast feeding can be painful (read-cracked and blistered nipples hurt like you-know-what) and Lanolin cream soothes sore nipples like nobody's business. Splurge on this. Your nipples will thank you.
3. Medela Pump in Style Breast Pump. Has. Been. A. Godsend. Seriously. Not only does it help alleviate engorged boobs from all that milk, but pumping helps you increase your milk supply AND it allows you to be able to LEAVE THE HOUSE since someone else can just pour some already pumped breastmilk into a bottle and presto! you've got yourself a bonafide Mommy break.
4. Simple Wishes Hands Free Breast Pump Bra. No question, the most ridiculous looking thing EVER but TRUST ME, this will change your life. The first couple of weeks I pumped without this thing and I couldn't do anything but sit there and hold the pumps with both hands for like 20 minutes. Any Mom will tell you that multi-tasking is a must and now I happily sport this sucker whenever I pump so that I can do other things like write this blog post, for example. ;)
5. Medela Pump and Save Breastmilk Storage Bags. Gotta have something to store all that valuable breast milk in. I use these and while some say that they don't hold enough milk, I've found them to be the perfect size for what I need. Our freezer is fast becoming overrun by these little bags!
6. Lifefactory Glass Baby Bottle with Silicone Sleeve. You read everywhere about plastic warnings so just to be on the safe side we got these glass beauties to use for Cole's feedings. He took to them right away and I love the heaviness of them coupled with the great design. I'm also looking forward to repurposing them in the future for juice, snacks, etc. Bonus is that they are dishwasher safe-silicone cover included! (If only I had a dishwasher...but that's a story for another day ;)
7. Boppy Pillow/My Brest Friend. We were gifted both and while I still think that any old pillow will suffice, when you are first trying to get the hang of the whole breast feeding thing, it's nice to have some "tried and true" tools like these structured pillows to help you along. I think the edge goes to the boppy though, because you can also use it as a "seat" for your baby and later they can even do some tummy time action on there too. I'm all about things with multiple uses!
8. Daily Calendar. You will need something to record every feeding/pump/poop/pee and I've found that a small calendar with both monthly and daily squares for writing has been most helpful. I can write Cole's appointments (as well as my own) on the monthly calendar while recording each day's feedings, etc. on the daily one and they are all in one place. I also write down any questions I have for the Doctor and take it in with me to Cole's appointments so that I can reference my questions and not forget anything. Doctors really appreciate it when you don't waste their time that way!
9. Nursing Bras. If you breastfeed you must have at least three of these. At least! Thank you to whichever wonderful woman invented these things because they really do save time and sanity-two things that are in rare supply these days ;). (On a sidenote-you know this photo below is a total advertisement because what tired Mom of a newborn is going to take (or have!) the time to put on a full face of makeup like this chick has going on?!? Let's be real people.)
10. Button Down Pajamas. My Mom bought me some similar to these at Target and I've worn them almost every night since we came home from the hospital. It's just way easier to breastfeed in the middle of the night when you don't have to pull up an old t-shirt (my usual pj top of choice) and you can just whip open a button instead. Plus, you stay warmer and with winter upon us, that's always a good thing!
 11. Some sage advice (and support!). Probably the most important thing-breast feeding is hard. And it's not something that comes naturally at first (at least for me it didn't). Take the time and make the effort to reach out to someone who can help you and "hold your hand" in a way. For me, the nurses at our hospital were a big help as well as a lactation consultant who I called the first week in because things just didn't seem to be working right. I also had my amazing Mom, who I called one morning early because I was in so much pain and in less than an hour she had taken off work for the day, asked her co-worker/friend who knows a lot about breastfeeding for her advice, and come over to help me sort things out. I'm not one for asking for help, but just do it. It will make your life that much easier and get you on the road to pumping/feeding freedom so much faster!

These are my Mommy Must Haves for feeding. Yours might be different, but this is what worked for me! :)

Thankful

Whoo-hoo! It's the day before Thanksgiving and Blane is off early and then J&Josh come home and then we get to celebrate tomorrow with both families and then Friday kicks off Christmas season!!! (can you tell that I'm excited? ;)
In other news...the Pioneer Woman took these images on her way out of New York the other night. Aren't they stunning? I love how you can totally make out Manhattan (including Central Park!) in the one below. A little reminder to keep praying for all those who are still trying to put their lives together after Hurricane Sandy <3
What are you thankful for this year? I have so much...will share my tops tomorrow!
Whoo-hoo Wednesday!

Paper Goodness

My sister and I are huuuuuuge fans of letterpress and the (almost) long lost art of all things paper and snail mail. There is a local letterpress company here in Los Angeles, Sugar Paper, that does a paper good, I tell you! The other day Mom and I stopped into their Brentwood store and we could have bought out the entire shop, that's how delicious it all was. Here were my faves...
Everything about this card is brilliant-the black, white and gold color scheme; the striped envelope liner; the hand done calligraphy; the gold tipped paper.
Another favorite was this pretty pale blue and gold personalized stationary. How special to receive a note from someone on this confetti number?
One of my favorite color combos is pink+gold (if Cole had been a girl you know her nursery would have been full of pink and gold goodness!) and I went gaga over this beautifully letterpressed desk calendar. Now if only I had a desk to put it on...haha

Sugar Paper also sells prints that you can frame or they will also frame for you. I think this one with the hearted "LA" would be perfect for my sister who lives way too far away from me at the moment. *Sigh. One day!
LOVE LOVE LOVE this. Have I mentioned that I love this print?!? Haha. I also have a small love affair with ampersands and when paired with one of my favorite colors...you just can't go wrong. If it wasn't the season of giving I would have snatched this up for myself on the spot!
Best place in the world to live! :)
These two recipe holders grabbed my eyes first for their color combo (obviously) and then because I just thought the design was so pretty. Would be so pretty in an all white kitchen or as a pop of color in a dramatic black kitchen with gold hardware too. Ooooh :)
I love me some good papergoods. Whenever I see a cute, funny or awesomely designed card I always snatch it up because I just know that SOMEONE I know will be the recipient of it in the near future. It can't hurt to have pretty letterpressed items just lying around your house either! Right???

Go send someone a card today-I promise it will make them smile! :D
